For the safety of all, I am supporting Bill A792

Dear Editor:

I wish to bring to the attention of the public that New Jersey Assembly Bill A792, which I have continually supported, would enable our Sheriff’s Office and other sheriff’s offices throughout the state to enforce truck weight violations and other inspections of trucking vehicles. I expounded upon this type of enforcement, and this was one of the paramount issues during my campaign for the Office of Sheriff of Hudson County.

I have been fortunate to enlist the aid of Freeholder Chair Jeffrey Dublin, Freeholders William O’Dea, Eliu Rivera, members of the Board and State Legislators to support this bill for the safety and general welfare of the people of Hudson County. I fully understand that if approved and our office would have the ability to enforce the truck traffic that the citations issued would assist the taxpayers of our county with the fines that would be generated from the enforcement. But we must remember that the overweight trucks and those trucks with safety violations are a danger to every man, woman and child in Hudson County and that safety issue is my main concern as Sheriff.

I will continue to lobby for support for Assembly Bill A792 as I have supported the concept of the ability of the Sheriff’s Office involvement in this important area of law enforcement currently and since last year.

Respectfully submitted,
Juan M. Perez, Sheriff of Hudson County
