Dear Editor:
It is with great pleasure that I would like to take this opportunity to announce the official commencement of construction work at 9th St. and Palisade Ave. This site will be the home of a new park and swimming pool complex for the peaceful enjoyment of the residents of Union City for years to come. I am proud to say that upon its completion this public works project will be nothing short of beautiful in scope and design. This is due in no small measure to all of the careful planning and hard work that has been an integral part of making this development a reality.
In addition, careful thought and consideration was given to preserving the historic nature of the old Doric Masonic Temple building located at this site. As part of this effort, a portion of the original building architecture will be incorporated into the new park complex as a way of keeping some of Union City’s rich history alive. Although much of the original structure will be lost, the original spirit of this site will be captured in the new park complex which will be named “Fireman’s Memorial Park.” In this way we will be dedicating this site to all of the firemen who died in the line of duty while risking their lives to rescue others in selfless acts of courage. The end result will be a huge new park and swimming pool complex dedicated to our fallen heroes that maintains the great history of Union City.
Without a doubt this new park complex will be a tremendous asset to the enjoyment of many future generations to come. In this regard, summers on 9th St. and Palisade Ave. will now offer all of our residents, especially our children and senior citizens, countless hours of well-deserved fun in the sun. Needless to say, I can hardly contain my excitement. Together we are making history in a new Union City.
