Scene & Heard – That’s a wrap!

The Hoboken International Film Festival wrapped with a gala awards ceremony last Thursday night.

Here at the Current, it’s a toss up to which night we liked better – the day of films and private concert with Danny Aiello, the keg party with Artie Lange, or the packed awards ceremony.

While we couldn’t get to all the events (we sure tried!), what was clear to us was the level of commitment many of the filmmakers had. If you missed any of the coverage, please visit: www.hudsoncurrent.com for related stories. As the curtain comes down, we’d like to congratulate all the filmmakers and festival members for a job well done! – DS

CHASING DREAMS – (Top picture) Pictured are the cast and crew of “Shooting Johnson Roebling.” Canan Erguder won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film. This is a first time film for director Christopher Burke, who said he was thrilled not only with the win but the two nominations. Co-writer Tommy Walsh said that they are also moving on to other projects including their next feature film (another dark comedy) and a reality based TV show.

“I actually had my camera so we were able to capture the whole thing on film. And the audience award nomination was a really great. It is one thing for the jury to recognize you, but the audience is just huge.” – Christopher Burke

ACADEMY AWARD WINNER – Actor Charles Durning (middle photo) was one of the brightest spots of the Hoboken International Film Festival. Durning was honored at the film festival with a Lifetime Achievement Award. At the wrap party, Durning reflected on his career. Durning said that he still loves what he is doing.

“I myself have the same passion I had when I was 20. I’m never going to give it up.” – Charles Durning

BEHIND EVERY MAN – Former New Jersey resident Claudine Liss (bottom photo) received the award for Best Screenplay. Liss directed and wrote the script for “And So Life Goes On.” As one of the only female directors in this festival, Liss pointed out during her speech that behind every good man there is a good woman.
