This is a story for the all the single gals out there. Perhaps you’ve tried to meet an available man in a town teeming with possibilities, but you can’t seem to find a match. Perhaps you wonder where they all are.

Well, here at the Current, we found one. Ladies, meet Cory Checket, one of Hoboken’s available bachelors.

Over the next eight weeks, we are going to set Cory up with six different women. One of those women could be you! If you are ready to put your dating life in our hands – read on.

Meet Cory

Cory Checket, 26, has lived in Hoboken for the last five years. He was born and raised in Toms River, N.J., and has one younger brother, Nick.

Checket graduated from Rutgers University with a major in economics and was a financial advisor before switching to his current job at an upscale restaurant in Hoboken.

For the last three years Checket has worked as bar manager for the Madison on 14th Street. What he likes best about his current job is that he is able to meld both his social life and career. And Checket is good at what he does. With his outgoing personality and friendly smile, he makes his job look easy. Yet tending to the needs of others takes patience and skill.

He works hard and plays hard too. When Checket has time off he likes to spend it outdoors or on something physically challenging.

Physically fit, Checket used to play two-man beach volleyball professionally. He prefers the challenge of sports that some are afraid to try like skydiving and bungee jumping. Checket has been bungee jumping over a dozen times.

According to Checket, the best place to jump is New Zealand.

“It’s the biggest and the best in the world,” said Checket. “When you jump here they don’t let you go as high.”

Checket is looking for a woman who enjoys sports. According to Checket, a good date would involve hiking or rock climbing.

“I want someone who enjoys the outdoors and likes to do things,” said Checket.

A traveling man

When Checket has time off, he likes to plan trips. He has extensively traveled all over the United States and Europe. Other places he’s been include: Germany, London, France, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Jamaica, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Australia.

According to Checket, Australia was one of his favorite places to go. In 2000, he studied in Australia for a semester and then extended his stay for a year and got to see the Olympics. Eventually he would like to go back.

“There are so many places to go,” said Checket. “But so far it is the best place I’ve been to.”

This love of new places has given him an appreciation for some of the finer things in life like excellent wine and cuisine. (Editor’s note: Women who like white zinfandel need not apply.)

“I love food,” said Checket. “There are very few things I don’t like. I like to try things. I’m looking for someone that enjoys life like I do.”

Ms. Right

According to Checket, he’s been busy with work and traveling, which hasn’t given him much time to have a girlfriend.

“I enjoy all the things that come with being single, but I’m definitely ready to meet the girl that I want,” said Checket.

It’s a matter of finding the right girl. Some of the things that Checket values are: independence, self-respect, confidence and class. According to Checket, he has reached a point in his life where he thinks it is equally as important to find someone that he is physically attracted to, but also emotionally compatible with.

“I’m looking for someone who shares my interests and understands my motivations,” said Checket. “Someone who supports my decisions and stimulates me both physically and mentally on a daily basis – a partner really.”
