The city will be hosting a number of events aimed at getting everyone into the spirit of the holiday season.
Holiday craft fair
One of the more exciting events will be the 11th Annual Hoboken Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday and Sunday Dec. 3 and 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fair will be held at Hoboken City Hall at 94 Washington St. between First and Newark streets.
Over 30 local craftspeople will sell handmade gift items for that special someone on your holiday list, such as candles, bath soaps and body lotions, silk scarves, pottery, stained glass, fused glass, jewelry, quilts, photography, Hoboken Eddie’s Sauces and Marinades, baby items, Wine Bottle Cheese Boards, metal sculpture, folk art, handknits, and mosaics.
This marketplace will provide unusual items that can’t be found at local department stores or malls. It’s a unique opportunity to find high-quality, hand-crafted gifts directly from the artist.
Landmark Coffee will also be on hand selling gourmet coffees and teas, hot apple cider, pastries and cookies, bagels with cream cheese spreads, muffins, seasonal fresh fruit, and sandwich wraps.
Many local restaurants will be offering lunch and brunch specials.
‘Holiday Banding’ Christmas Concert
Mayor David Roberts and the City of Hoboken will present the Holiday Banding Christmas Concert, which will benefit the Habitat for Humanity. The evening will feature local musicians celebrating the holiday spirit.
It is scheduled for Thursday Dec 8, 2004 at Willie McBride’s at 616 Grand St. Doors will open at 8 p.m., and admission will be $10.
The following local musicians and bands will be on hand performing their favorite holiday classics in their own unique styles: Chris Butler, formerly of The Waitresses; Dave Calamoneri, The Cucumbers; The Nissen Brothers; Tom Vincent, John Sonntag, Jim Testa, Sputnik, Tipsey McSwagger, The Damn Lovelys, Gene D. Plumber, Contra Band, and the John Keim Band.
City tree lighting
O n Monday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m., the city will host a holiday tree lighting at City Hall. The event will feature carolers and a visit from Santa, the Hoboken High School Chorus, Our Lady of Grace Youth Choir, the Hoboken Recreation Cheerleaders, and host Elvis the Elf.
