A letter from POG to Forrester

Dear Editor:

The Forrester campaign recently received this letter from Bob DuVal of the People for Open Government, and wanted to share it with your voters.

Sincerely, Peter S. Morgan.

Dear Mr. Forrester,

People for Open Government (POG) is a Hoboken based good government group composed of local citizens. Our not for profit status, as well as our preferences, do not permit us to endorse any candidate for public office. However, we do actively seek to engage candidates on the issues of open and honest government.

The third goal of our group is: “To curb the undue influence of money on governmental decisions and elections.” We are very interested in preserving and enforcing the anti “pay to play” ordinance voted into law by the citizens of Hoboken. It is difficult for us to be in court suing our own government to force compliance with the law.

Thank you for being the only gubernatorial candidate to meet with us to discuss this important issue. Thank you also for specifically calling for immediate passage of S-1987 – enabling legislation urgently required to protect the overwhelming enactment by Hoboken voters of our municipal pay to play ban. Your assurances that you favor maintenance of municipal pay to play legislation and that the attorney general should enforce these laws are comforting. The corrosive influence of money in government must come to an end.

Very truly yours,
Bob DuVal, President
People for Open Government
