Summer fun in the city Full line-up of recreation options available

The weather has warmed up and summer vacation for children is quickly approaching. It’s the time of year when almost everyone’s attention turns to the outdoors.

This summer, the city has a full calendar of recreational events and activities that should keep children (and adults) busy.

The following activities will take place at various gymnasiums and parks throughout the city. Registration for the programs will be from now until June 24, Monday through Friday, at the Recreation Department on the third floor in City Hall, 94 Washington St., from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To register, bring a copy the child’s birth certificate and proof of residency (i.e. rent receipt, gas bill, etc.) The programs are open to Hoboken residents only on a first come, first serve basis. Times and dates:

Family Day and Night at the Multi Center Roller Rink on Second and Adams streets, including roller skating and rollerblading on Monday and Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and open basketball on Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Multi Center Rink hours are Monday: open skate, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday: pick-up basketball, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday: open skate, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday: pick-up basketball, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday: open skate, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday: hockey, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., open skate, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and basketball, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday: open skate: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

* Ultimate Frisbee starts July 1 every Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Players must be 11 years or older. Games will be played at the Sinatra Park field.

* Swimming at Hoboken High School Pool at Ninth and Clinton streets on Monday through Friday beginning June 28. Toddlers (with adults) from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Family swim from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and adult swim 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be a $40 fee for six weeks of family and adult swims. Family swims consist of two adults and a maximum of three children. It will cost $10 for each additional child. Adults should be 18 years and older.

* Swimming at the Boys & Girls Club daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting June 28.

* Devotion Yoga will host yoga at Pier A Park on Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning on June 27. Yoga mats are required.

* Karate Camp for children ages 5 to 12 on Tuesday and Wednesday beginning June 28, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Columbus Park.

* Recreational Fencing for children ages 10 to 16 on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Friday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Adult fencing will be held on Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Multi Service Center, Second and Adams streets beginning June 13.

* Kayaking on June 4, June 19, July 30, Aug. 14, and Aug. 28. Use of the boat is free from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Boats, gear, and instructors will be provided. Call (201) 420-2207 for more information and sign-up procedures. Kayaking is sponsored by The Downtown Boathouse.

* Exercise on the Waterfront at Pier A Park on Mondays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from June 6 to Aug. 8. Bring water to drink and a towel. Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Sponsored by New York Sports Club, Club H Fitness, Tiger Schulmann’s Karate, Saladworks Cafe, Starbucks, Hoboken Farm Boy, and Re-Juice-A-Nation. For registration, call (201) 420-2012.

* Girls Softball Camp at the Hoboken Little League Field at Fifth and River streets on Tuesday and Thursday starting July 12. Ages 5 to 7 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and ages 8 to 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

* Girls Soccer Clinic at John F. Kennedy Field on Tuesday and Thursday for ages 12 to 18 from July 19 to July 28, 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Then, from Aug. 1 to Aug. 18 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

* Football Clinic at JFK Field from July 18 to July 21 for children ages 9 to 14 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

* Soccer Clinic at Sinatra Park soccer field from June 29 to Aug. 17 on Monday and Wednesday. For children ages six through eight at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and for ages 9 to 12 at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

* Boys Basketball Camp beginning June 29 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Wallace School at 1115 Clinton St. For ages 10 to 14, Monday and Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and ages 6 to 9 on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

* Girls Basketball Camp beginning June 29 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Wallace School. For ages 10 to 14 on Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and ages 6 to 9 on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

* Volleyball on Tuesday and Thursday for ages 9 to 14, on June 29 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Pier A Park.

* Skateboard Clinic beginning June 29 at the Castle Point Skateboard Park on Sinatra Drive, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. For ages 6 to 9 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and ages 10 to 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All participants are required to wear helmets.

* Tennis at Columbus Park beginning June 29 at 10th and Clinton streets on Monday though Thursday. Ages 7 to 9 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., ages 10 to 13 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and ages 13 to 18 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will also be adult tennis on Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

* Gymnastics will begin June 29 on Tuesday and Thursday. For ages 5 to 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and ages nine to 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A $69 per session fee is due at registration. Gymnastics will be held at the Multi Service Center.
