Dear Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those Hoboken residents who voted in last Tuesday’s municipal election and congratulate all the Mayoral and City Council candidates who seek to serve our residents as elected public servants.
I am especially proud of my colleagues on the Roberts Team for all their dedication and hard work over the past few months on the campaign. Their efforts were crucial in our first place finish and allowing us to enter the June 14th runoff as distinct frontrunners. Your support is tremendously appreciated by my running mates and me.
As I said on election night, Hoboken is a tight-knit community of very special neighborhoods. Our residents are special people who represent all aspects of the American experience. I am proud to have been born and raised here and my wife, Anna, and I have been fortunate to raise our family here.
I again ask for your support as we enter the runoff based on my record of accomplishments and vision of the future. We have completed and are implementing the first new Master Plan in two decades. This will determine future growth and quality of life for the next 20 years. We have already identified 17 acres of new parks and recreational facilities. Our public schools have been linked to Stevens Institute of Technology to provide a first-rate curriculum of science and technology for children in virtually every grade. It is also important to know that these changes have made Hoboken more family-friendly as parents chose to raise their children here and over the past four years there has not been an increase in the municipal tax rate.
There is still more to be done. Later this year we will break ground on our W Hotel and begin construction of Pier C Park, marking vast improvements on our waterfront. The opening of the Light Rail system brings further opportunities to our western border and beyond. I love this City and its people. I have truly been honored to serve as your Mayor for the past four years and, with your support on June 14th, to continue to make Hoboken a better community for everyone.
Mayor David Roberts
