The New Jersey Turnpike Turns Me On

Until we see Blue Man Group
and underwater volcanoes
at Liberty Science Center
I celebrate the necessities:

the run-over raccoon,
all the signs –
south bound, Manville, jiffy lube
tolls booths
u-turn
Felix diner #9
dandelions, red-tailed hawks
everything
on the way to you
turns me on

are you ever happy
to see IKEA and Newark airport
or do you just pass
all you have to pass
because you are
so straightforward
and it takes an hour
and you’ll have to
stretch out your back?
