Dear Ms. Smith:
I am writing to apologize to you and the members of the Hoboken Chapter of the NAACP for not attending the Freedom Fund Awards Dinner which was held in Jersey City on April 4, 2004. I admit that I did not handle the matter properly and regret any hard feelings this might have caused. I take full responsibility and would like you to know that it was never my intention to slight you or your family. It is my hope that as we move forward we can improve the line of communication between the Mayor’s office and the NAACP and appreciate your responsiveness in working towards this goal.
On behalf of the City of Hoboken, I would like to congratulate the 2004 recipients of the NAACP Freedom Fund Awards – Leo H. Smith, Edward B. Johnson, Clayton Anderson, Cecil Vincent, Eugene Drayton, Tonya Drayton and Elizabeth Falco – in recognition of their exemplary record of achievement and fine standing in the community. These individuals have earned the deepest respect and admiration of many for their countless contributions made to the City of Hoboken and its citizens.
Very truly yours,
DAVID ROBERTS
Mayor
City of Hoboken
