A Week Ahead

LISMORE – The Jersey City band Lismore plays at Rare in Manhattan on Friday, June 18. Lismore took shape in 2002 with the collaboration of Fifth Street neighbors Stephen Hindman and Penelope Trappes. Hindman (formerly known as DJ Kingsize) plays synthesizer and guitar. Vocalist Trappes, a native of Australia, also performs on electric piano. The duo describes their sound as a “curious combination of pop music, electronics, guitars, vocals, and other strange elements.” Among the strange elements are Peter Kaufmann on drums and Claude Coleman (who plays drums for Ween) on bass. Lismore’s debut CD, We could connect or we could not, will be out soon. Rare is at 416 W. 14th St. For more info, see www.lismoremusic.com.
POLAR BEAR QUEEN – Hoboken-based artist Laura Alexander’s “Polar Bear Queen” will be featured as part of the Studio Montclair show The Seven Deadly Sins, the group’s seventh annual Juried Open Exhibition in Manhattan. Almost 700 entries from all over the world depicting the seven deadly sins were submitted for the exhibition, 47 of which were selected for display. An opening reception for the show will be held on Saturday, June 19, from 3 to 6 p.m., at New Century Artists, Inc., located at 530 W. 25th St. in Manhattan. The show is on view June 15-26. Alexander’s work will also appear at the Hoboken Historical Museum as part of the City Animals exhibit, which will run from June 27 through December 2004. Alexander’s studio is open to the public on the first Sunday of every month, as part of the First Sundays tour at the Monroe Center for the Arts, at 720 Monroe St. in Hoboken.
