We’ve just begun!

Dear Editor:

The Hoboken Public Library was dedicated to the people of the Hoboken in 1897. This majestic building is admired and respected by residents, patrons and visitors as it stands with approximately 75 percent of its original beauty still intact. Unfortunately, not unlike so many grand structures of its time, it is considered somewhat obsolete as it is not in compliance with the American Disabilities Act. In addition, it is essential that some interior areas be redesigned to serve the public more efficiently and to meet the increasing demands upon our resources especially in technology.

Over the past several years a cooperative effort on behalf of the City, the Board of Trustees, the Friends group and other funding sources have paved the way for various technologies and service oriented improvements as well as the recently completed exterior renovations that have successfully stabilized the building and restored much of its original glory. We’ve only just begun!

To insure that the Hoboken Public Library continues to meet the ever-changing needs of its patrons, the Board of Trustees is spearheading a fundraising campaign to complete additional capital improvements. Our kick-off fundraising event will be held on March 1, 2004 at 6 p.m. at Frankie & Johnny’s On The Waterfront, 163 14th Street, Hoboken.

We hope that you will want to take part in this effort to enhance our library and make it a state-of-the-art facility. If you require additional information or wish to purchase tickets to this event please do not hesitate to contact Director Lina Podles at 201-420-2281. All contributions can be made payable to the “Hoboken Public Library Improvement Project” and mailed to the Board of Trustees at 500 Park Avenue, Hoboken, NJ 07030.

Thanking you in advance, we remain,

Anna Marie Roberts, Honorary Chairperson
Jo Ann Serrano, Chairperson, Fundraising Committee
Nancy Q. Sciancalepore, Committee member
Richard DelBoccio, Committee member
