Dear Editor:
On behalf of the children enrolled in the Jubilee Center’s after school program, I want to thank Mayor Roberts for providing our city with an ice rink this winner. Among the obstacles that the Jubilee Center faces in serving over a hundred children from Hoboken’s public housing community is finding extra-curricular activities that are fun, inexpensive and easily accessible. The ice rink met all three of these criteria. Thanks to Eddie Miller, the City’s Department of Recreation rented skates to our children for less than half price, making it possible for us to bring them to the ice rink more than once. They were reluctant to go home, even as the sun set and their teeth rattled after being on the ice for over an hour!
There are a few things more rewarding to the Jubilee Center’s staff and volunteers than the sounds of delight our children make when they have a new or rarely available opportunity for fun. We certainly hope there will be a rink next year!
