We need changes and new visions when it comes to parking in Hoboken

Dear Editor:

As a relative newcomer to Hoboken (and second time letter writer) I understand the importance of parking to all residents and visitors. Moving here from Montclair, the prospect of parking curbside was strange, indeed, as driveways were the sole depot of automobiles. Hoboken is an urban center, similar to Greenwich Village, where residents and visitors are lucky to find free, curbside parking, let alone municipal garages.

Mayor Roberts campaigned on a platform of reform. He has made a change and appointed John Corea as Parking Utility director. This is a step in the right direction. I know Corea from last spring’s City Council campaign where he made parking a central issue. We need to explore parking solutions like privatization, marketing existing garage spaces and updating obsolete parking ordinances.

Let’s move forward and make changes. I give Mayor Roberts credit for making a change and making new moves. We need a new vision and new energy to meet the challenge, and John Corea’s appointment is a step in the right direction.
