Dear Editor:
Generally when I write a letter to the editor, it’s usually to take issue with something. Today I am going to change my style a bit and speak up for the job that our state workers have done in their efforts to remove snow and ice from roads, bridges and parking lots in our state colleges and other facilities. When you consider that these men and women are putting in between 12 and 16 hours shifts, outdoors, in freezing cold and wet weather, one has to marvel at the dedication of these folks. They see to take it as a personal challenge to keep the roads clear and drivable. I find it interesting that some will complain when there is road construction going on that causes traffic to slow down, but they are the first to file behind a snowplow.
I tip my hat and offer a whole-hearted applause to those who work so hard to keep our roads and streets clear so that we can make it back to our warm homes, hot dinners and our families. So the next time you see one of our employees plowing at 2 o’clock in the morning, give him a “thumbs up” so that he knows that you know how hard he works and how much you appreciate what he is doing.
