Resolutions As January rolls on, residents look for new start

New Year’s resolutions are promises we make for self-improvement, to help others, to change the world, or to stop messing up.

When interviewed two weeks ago, one senior citizen from Weehawken said that at his age, he was done making resolutions. “I’m old,” he said. “I’m already resolved. I don’t have any left.”

A Secaucus resident was still undecided. “There’s a lot of things I could quit,” he said.

Still another senior citizen had focused goals. “Stay sober,” he said with a smirk as he scurried off with his shopping cart.

Here are what other residents look forward to changing in 2004.

“I just want to be more productive at work, and stay healthy and happy.” – Sansana Sawasdikosol, Jersey City (with Satrianna)

“Maybe to help old people in nursing homes and hospitals.” – Olga Correa, West New York

“To quit smoking.” – Corrine Rempas, Secaucus (with Atheena)

“More money, more money, more money… I want to bring family ties closer together.” – David and Theresa Rogers, Jersey City

“What’s a good one? Last year, it was better health.” – Bob Bender, North Bergen

“To go on a diet” – Maria Mateo, Union City

“To be stronger with people. Not to let people walk all over me.” – Dorothy Hefferman, North Bergen
