Mayor Stack doesn’t leave anyone behind

Dear Editor:

When I speak in public I don’t have the blessing of making a speech without notes. Recently I have been at two different meetings, and I have witnessed Mayor Brian P. Stack making two speeches that had substance and were very powerful and informative, and Brian made both speeches without any notes. I feel that is a blessing, and you need to be born with that ability.

I think if you’re over 45 years of age or older you can relate that President John F. Kennedy was an excellent speaker who made his speeches also without any notes.

I want to publicly declare now that the year is almost over, as I reflect on things that have taken place here in the city where I live and work that one of the things that I’m happy is to see that Commissioner Michael Leggiero has recovered his health with the fight against cancer. Also I want to make clear that being part of electing Brian P. Stack to the State Assembly is very special to me and my family.

I have worked the streets of Union City and other cities in Hudson County to help individuals become congressmen, county executives, governors, but Brian P. Stack’s victory for the Assembly seat is the most special to me because of what Brian in a short time has done for the Latino community and the entire community.

The record shows that Brian P. Stack does not leave anyone behind. Coming this January 2, 2004, the new Police Chief will be Mr. Charles Everett, an Afro-American who is an outstanding individual. Just for the record there is not even 3 percent of Afro-Americans living in our community. I feel this promotion of Mr. Everett is a shining moment in the political career of Mayor Brian P. Stack.

I will continue to be involved in the community where I grew up and has given me and my family so much. For over 400 years the American people have welcomed millions of immigrants to this great country, and immigrants like me have had the opportunity to have a chance to live the American dream. As a Cuban immigrant, I speak for all immigrants who live in Union City, we are thankful to the American people for giving all of us a second home and to live in a free society. Also, we are thankful that Brian P. Stack welcomes all of us to be part of the melting pot.

If I’m at a fault for being involved in the community where I went to school and where I work as an administrator in this community school system, let it be it, because I will not become indifferent, and I feel it is my responsibility as a resident of Union City to stay involved and be a part of a system that is delivering so many positive community issues.

Respectfully,
Oscar Cordero
