Dear Editor:
Just a few years ago our medical system was the best in the world. Our American hospitals were absolutely immaculate. As soon as you entered you could feel the warmth, the caring and their compassion would touch you as you were taken to your room. Our standards were so high at that time; no one in the world could come close. Unfortunately, our hospitals are now no better than third world.
Today our medical system has been taken over by those who know nothing about medicine. They have no idea how to respond to those who are quite ill. They do not realize the urgency of test results regarding x-rays, blood work and all other procedures pertaining to patients. They are not caring, have no compassion and very little common sense. All they care about is their precious bottom line.
Two months ago it was necessary for me to have a blood test. One month later I went to my physician for my monthly check up. After one whole month the blood test results had not been received. A call was made to the lab, and the results were given to my doctor over the phone.
Two weeks ago I had a chest x-ray. Six days went by and once more the results had not reached my physician. The hospital was near by so my physician went over to read the x-ray himself. The results were positive for pneumonia which I had been walking around with for six days.
Our hospitals are in shambles and should be given back to doctors and nurses who are professionals in the field of medicine. All hospitals must be restored to the way they were; our citizens deserve to be taken care of by those who have dedicated their whole lives to the poor, sick and disabled.
