Dear Editor:
Hudson County’s kids need more safe places to play. Question #4 will establish a Trust Fund to be used to acquire and improve parks, natural areas, recreation facilities and historic sites.
The Trust Fund will be financed by a special real estate tax of 1 cent per hundred dollars of valuation or about $17 per year for a typical property owner. This will raise nearly $3 million per year and will enable the county to get millions of additional dollars from state and federal sources. The tax can never be raised without another voter referendum.
Hudson is the only county in the state that does not have a special fund that enables it to get additional state money for parks. All 12 communities in the county will be eligible to receive grants for projects funded by the Trust Fund. Parks make such a difference for kids and families.
On November 4, you can make a difference by voting Yes on Question #4.
