Local back-to-basics rock ‘n’ roll is evident in the Whiskey Bar’s new project: a live album from talented groups aiming to start a movement.
One of the bands in the album is called Waking. Their tracks "Restles" and "Inside" are reminiscent of early ’90s Seattle rockers, while the band Sovenskya invades the album with a post-hard emo approach that has proven to be successful for bands like My Chemical Romance and Thursday.
Live & Loud Vol. I (Tree Fort) is smooth and professionally produced and arranged by John Seymour. His recent projects include working with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Live was recorded at the Whiskey Bar in Hoboken on June 20-21 of this year. The other bands on the album are Downshallow, Donwstage, Slowdrown, Planeside, and Madjul.
The heavy riffs in almost every track hook the listener in. Seymour has put out a sample of the indie hard rock sound, which highlights the Hoboken and North Jersey scene. Listen to Live loud to appreciate the efforts from the quality acts. Jeff Debruycker from the Whiskey Bar took a chance, and it seems like it’s paying off. It’s a certainty that there’s more than one place for quality live music in town.
New York City continues to be the playground for up-and-coming bands, but right across the river, they get to work on their stuff.
Chris Gibson from local heroes High Speed Chase helped engineer the record.
It can be purchased at the Whiskey Bar and at Tunes on Washington Street in Hoboken. For information visit www.whiskey-bar.com. q
