You’ll never see a time restriction at the BOE meetings as long as we’re here!

Dear Editor:

At the August 26th council meeting Mayor Elwell announced that from this meeting on, a resident will be allowed five minutes to address that body and five minutes only. This is a change from the old policy of allowing a resident to speak for five minutes and then after all in attendance had addressed that body be allowed a second five-minute opportunity to be heard. This is the same Dennis Elwell who ran on the slogan, “People before Politics.”

What distresses us is that not one of the council voiced an objection to “his” announcement of this new policy that night.

As two members who presently sit on the Secaucus Board of Education, we want the record to show that as long as we sit on this body, no time restriction will ever be imposed, and if ever presented, it will be opposed by the two of us.
