I want my mail delivered on time!

Dear Editor:

The North Bergen Reporter was kind enough to print my comparison between the old postal service and our present privatized system. Gone are the days where with a three-cent stamp the department was able to make two deliveries daily. In fact every Republican based privatization has really been a disaster. If not financially, the void of public improvement.

Yesterday, our mail was delivered between 5 and 6 p.m. where Larry, the best mailman that North Bergen ever had and will have, has delivered our mail sometimes even before noon.

When I checked my mail, my box was stuffed with a 400-page catalog from “IKEA”. The pages were very thick and you can imagine its size and weight if you compare it with an average telephone book cut in half. The mailman must have been forced to make many, many trips back to the base, and this explained his tardiness. Soon, mailmen will deserve truck driver’s wages, and the way the privatized company operates, mailmen won’t get them.

If this cost is allowed to be shifted from “IKEA” to the regular mail what would stop the telephone company from expecting the same treatment and all other bulk packages by business in general. Is the mail soon going to be delivered every third day or so? Or is the mail servicer running at such a profit that they have to start trucking?

Privatization and I are bitter enemies. For those that are brain dead, that system is slyly being imposed at the expense of our public schools. It is also being seriously considered for a way to make our Social Security system solvent. The lies that are used, very subtly, are very convincing and the unsuspecting, apathetic people will never discover they are being duped until privatization permeates everything and becomes too costly to remove. The people remain asleep.
