We are grateful to the HC Sheriff’s officers for their bravery, dedication and protection

Dear Editor:

The people of Hudson County and Jersey City are proud to recognize the exemplary service, dedication and bravery exhibited recently by three members of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office — Sergeant Christian Araujo, Detective Mark Borchert and Sheriff’s Officer Mark Hennessey during an horrific incident which originated in Hoboken involving a shooting and a car jacking and continued on the streets of Jersey City.

It is to be noted that every day in our City, County, State and Country law enforcement officers in the line of duty risk their lives to protect our communities from the terror and destruction of criminal activities. The three officers of the Sheriff’s Office responded to the life-threatening situation and without regard to the personal cost to them exhibited professionalism and bravery beyond compare. The officers were fired at with a 45 cal semi-automatic weapon, and Sgt. Araujo was struck by two bullets in the abdomen and the leg. The actions of the individual actor placed the officers and the public in a life-threatening circumstance, and the Sheriff’s officers were able to halt his crime wave.

The officers under the command of Sheriff Joseph T. Cassidy, Sgt. Araujo, Detective Borchert and Officer Hennessey along with all law enforcement are certainly appreciated, and we as citizens of Hudson County are profoundly grateful for their protection.

Respectfully submitted,
Robert B. Knapp
