New alliances in Hoboken

Dear Editor:

You have to feel a little sorry for Dave Roberts. While his candidates won, this is a guy who is going to have to spend the next two years sleeping with one eye open. He’s now got the resurgent Anthony Russo and Anthony’s cousin Terry Castellano on the council. He’s got Chris Campos and Ruben Ramos, who, with traveling partner Carmelo Garcia, form an ambitious trio that doesn’t include Dave in their long-terms plans. He’s got Richard DelBoccio and Michael Cricco who, unburdened by such banal concepts as integrity and principle, have an established history of gravitating to the newest power source to keep their status on the public dole current. I don’t know Nino Giacchi, but Tony Soares, likely sensing the end of the line after his miserable performance in the Fourth Ward, will be more vociferous and combative than ever. Carol Marsh will be busy trying to maintain her sanity while being overrun by council chaos and Dave’s developer pals.

Personally, I’ll be looking for an uneasy alliance of convenience to develop between Russo and the Campos-Ramos-Garcia triumvirate to oust Dave in ’05. Stay tuned folks!
