If you hear poetry in Hoboken, it could be Monday – Monochrome Mondays that is.
The event, held twice a month at Ristra at 230 Washington St. in Hoboken is the brain child of poet/actor Radomir Luza, Jr. He said he and Ristra’s event coordinator, Ivy, wanted to find a space for spoken word in Hoboken at a time when the mile-square city was devoid of such activities.
"That was July 2002," he said.
Luza, a Jersey City resident, who hosts Alliteration Alley in Jersey City, thought Hoboken also needed such a venue.
The event, which is held in the front of the lounge, starts at 8 p.m. every second and fourth Monday. Monochrome Mondays feature two acts, one poetry and the other music – with musical host Sasha Chavez.
The next event will be on June 8 and it will feature the poetry of Jay Chollick and the music of Jordan Koza.
Musical acts have not yet been booked for future dates, but the poetic features include Rustle Ochre on July 14, Melissa Lewis on Aug. 11 and Brett Axel on Sept 8.
There is a $3 door charge, and the lounge offers drink specials. Coffee, tea and chai are also available.
In Jersey City, the next Alliteration Alley event will occur June 19 at Victory Hall. – Al Sullivan
