Dear Editor:
The Friends of the Hoboken Public Library would like to thank some very special people for making possible a very special event on Saturday, May 10. Budd Schulberg, screenwriter for “On the Waterfront” accompanied Leonard Luizzi, City Historian, on a tour of Hoboken sites used in the film.
Co-sponsored by the Friends and the City of Hoboken, the tour itself was filmed by Jim Garamone, who is preparing a documentary on the 1954 film. Our group listened, spellbound, as Lenny Luizzi and Budd Schulberg gave behind-the-scenes accounts of the making of the film.
Locations visited included Church Square Park, City Hall Council Chambers, Court Street, River Street, Saint Peter and Paul Church and Elysian Park.
We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Budd Schulberg, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Luizzi, Jim Garamone, Mayor David Roberts, James Farina, Geri Fallo, John DePalma, Suzanne Hetman, Carmelo Garcia and Joe Riccardi for their invaluable contributions to the day. The Friends are proud to have been a part of this event.
Michelle McGreivey
President, Friends of the Hoboken Public Library
