Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter on behalf of my dear friend, Inés Garcia-Keim, who is presently aspiring to be elected as City Councilperson in our 5th Ward, Tuesday, May 13.
I have known Inés Garcia-Keim for approximately 15 years. During that time I have been impressed by her willingness to selflessly involve herself in a variety of issues that impact upon our quality of life. As a strong advocate for education, Inés voiced her concerns for improvement in our local schools at Board of Education sessions and later became a founding member of the Hoboken Charter School.
In 1996, as a member of the Hoboken Puerto Rican Cultural Committee, Inés was also instrumental in establishing a Scholarship Fund that to date provides certain financial aid to Hoboken High School graduates in their goal to attain a higher education. Currently, Inés is also a member of the City’s Rent Leveling Board and a volunteer assistant and support person for women who are victims of domestic violence.
Although Inés Garcia-Keim has not previously held an elected position in this city, I believe that she will be an excellent representative of all the people in the 5th Ward, if given the opportunity to represent us on the Hoboken City Council. Inés’ involvement and her continued commitment to the affairs of our community are without question. Her integrity and presence as our elected 5th Ward representative are sorely needed in City Hall at this moment.
Therefore, I respectfully urge the residents of our 5th Ward to vote for Inés Garcia-Keim, Column B, on Tuesday, May 13. When elected, Inés Garcia-Keim will truly be the voice of the 5th Ward in the City of Hoboken. Please weigh the issues and consider her candidacy.
Sincerely,
Tom Olivieri
Longtime 5th Ward resident
