Peace and Despair

I’ve looked all around and searched everywhere
For my Island of Hope on the Sea of Despair
Each morn over coffee, the newspapers I scan
And cringe when I read of man’s treatment of man
The world has gone mad, people acting insane
From Osama Bin Laden to Saddam Hussein
Buildings are bombed, planes and buses are hijacked
Women are raped and their homes are ransacked
Dogs attack humans, moms kill their babies
It seems the whole world has ascended from hades
Turn on the TV and what do you hear
Aids and abortions, people living in fear
Still, now and then some kindness is shown
Good deeds are done as we face the unknown
Dear God above please show us the way
How to live in peace each precious day!
