April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

Dear Editor:

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Each year, more than three million children nationwide are reported to child protective agencies as alleged victims of child abuse or neglect; 40,000 right here in New Jersey. Three children die each day in the U.S. as a result of maltreatment.

Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey requests your help informing people in New Jersey about the scope of the problem of child abuse and what can be done to prevent it.

We have experts available for interview, including Maura Somers Dughi, past President of Prevent Child Abuse America and board member of Prevent Child Abuse-New Jersey, and Dr. Janet Rosenzweig, Executive Director of PCA-NJ and an expert in child welfare. Both of these women have significant media experience. We have other staff, board members and affiliates who could also speak intelligently about child abuse and child abuse prevention.

We have all been reminded recently how much there is to do to ensure all children are safe. To the extent that you could help to publicize this issue, especially during April, the greater will be our success in influencing public opinion and protecting children from harm.

Please feel free to contact me at 732-246-8060 ext. 12 or jdalin@PreventChildAbuseNJ.org if you have any questions or would like additional information. You may also view our press releases at www.PreventChildAbuseNJ.org.

Thank you in advance for your work on behalf of our children.
