Hudson County’s semi-annual “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days” will be held on April 5 and April 13, with drop-off locations in four Hudson municipalities that are open to all county residents.
Sponsored by the Hudson County Improvement Authority, the Household Hazardous Waste program gives residents a free, safe and easy way to rid their homes of potentially dangerous substances and materials that are not only capable of causing serious bodily harm, but also pose a threat to our environment.
“Hudson County residents have safely disposed of more than three million pounds of hazardous waste through this important program,” said Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise. “This shows what we can do when we come together to help make our county a better place. I encourage all residents to take advantage of this outstanding free service which helps to keep our homes clean and safe.”
The schedule for Household Hazardous Waste disposal is as follows: Saturday, April 5, 2003 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Kearny Department of Public Works, 357 Bergen Ave., and the Jersey City Incinerator Authority, 501 Rt. 440; Sunday, April 13, 2003 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Norton Paint Company, 148 East Fifth Street in Bayonne; and the North Bergen Recycling Yard, 6200 Tonnelle Ave. All four drop-off locations are open to all Hudson County residents.
Materials that will be accepted include: Pesticides, fluorescent bulbs, herbicides, thinners, corrosives, pool chemicals. oil-based paint and varnishes, Latex paint, household and car batteries, used motor oil, solvents, full or partially full aerosol cans, cleaners, propane tanks (from barbecues), oil gasoline, antifreeze, photographic chemicals, formaldehyde, and fire extinguishers.
Please do not bring: explosives, smoke detectors, compressed gas cylinders or tanks (such as for freon and helium), TCS’s, dioxin, kepone, woodlife, infectious waste, asbestos, silvex 2, 4, 5-t, radioactive material and unknown or unidentified material.
