Dear Editor,
I write in support of Brian Stack’s intention to run for State Assemblyman for the 33rd district. With his hard work he has earned the right to the seat, as Mr. Fraguela has earned Stack’s distrust with indirect political maneuvering and inefficiency to perform. Recently, Stack stated that his repeated trips to Trenton are due to the need of bringing urgently needed assistance to Union City, a state assemblyman’s job.
On the other hand, Stack is confronting a recall attempt from an educator turned wannabe pro-late-alcohol-sales candidate for mayor. Mr. Fraguela and Mr. Falto have become an amusing duo in the local political scene: an assemblyman that can’t perform adequately and a teacher who, by opposing the commission’s rule to close bars one hour earlier, has become an advocate for late night drinking. Thank God Union City has Brian Stack!
Mr. Falto used to be my Spanish high school teacher. His mediocrity in politics also awakes a certain sympathy. Little did I know that he was going to parachute himself in the political arena at the expense of endangering the quality of life of the children of Union City, because no decent, hardworking resident wants people- mainly out of towners- rioting in their streets, fighting, urinating or causing them to call the police at 2 a.m. Mr. Falto has jump-started his political career in the red light district of political platforms. The residents of Union City must be alarmed that it’s precisely an educator who leads the late night sales of alcohol campaign. I wonder what the superintendent of school thinks about this.
In order to enhance his political stature and chances, Mr. Falto has been reduced to personally and legally attack the mayor of Union City. Court politics is an awful way to get elected into public office. In an amazing rush to embrace failure, he has succeeded in making a circus out of his political persona.
Mr. Falto’s association with the late night crowd is not only affecting his political judgment, but his ability to communicate in his native language. He recently sent a letter-resume to El Nuevo Hudson full of grammatical errors.
The editor of ENH- a master in the Spanish language who published the letter just as he received it- discreetly lectured him on the fine points of Spanish grammar. It was an embarrassing episode.
For all I hear, Mr. Fraguela is a nice fellow. He is just a creation of machine politics. He is no leader. His accomplishments in the assembly have become a big question mark in the community. I suspect that his upcoming campaign literature will proclaim success on his behalf. Mr. Fraguela has been riding the political machine train since the old days of Alliance. The highlight of his career was when he voted seven times to raise taxes in Union City. Arrogance and abuse of power were then the norm of the day. He often can be seen in an assortment of photographs in local Spanish speaking publications. It’s wholesale politics. This time, against Brian Stack, he will have to ride this one without the machine. The voters will compare the records.
Against difficult odds Mayor Brian Stack keeps going forward with his work, seven days a week. A genuine leader, he will be a fighter for the 33rd district just as he is for Union City and the county. I trust the residents of Union City and the 33rd district will see over the shadow of baseless accusations and nonsense launched against him. He deserves our full support in his good work for the community and better opposition than Fraguela and Falto.
