Dear Editor:
I applaud the legislation signed recently by Governor James McGreevey which requires all trucks and vans registered in New Jersey to be equipped with either rear cross-view mirrors or “beepers” warning pedestrians and other drivers that the truck is backing up.
I thank the legislators involved in this bill, Assemblywoman Joan Quigley, Assemblyman Anthony Impreveduto and Senator Nicholas Sacco for their work on this bill and for protecting their constituents.
Every year hundreds of accidents occur in New Jersey in which personal injury and property damage result when a truck backs up with no warning or when the driver can’t see clearly.
I urge all of my constituents who own or drive trucks to equip their vehicles with these devices immediately.
