Dear Editor:
Have you noticed that Mayor Roberts, like Mayor Russo before him, rebuffs all dissension and criticism by calling it “political”? What could he possibly mean? Mayor Roberts is a professional politician, while his critics are generally working in the private sector to pay the bills that support him and his friends. And he says we are political?
Mayor Roberts, it is you who have become too political and in all the wrong ways. Every move you make is calculated to create a headline, or serve a hidden agenda. The last two years have proven that leading by headlines just doesn’t work. Good leaders must stand for something more than satisfying contributors — they can’t sell out to the highest bidder. Leaders keep their promises.
Paranoia, shaky alliances, hidden agendas and bartering in favors motivate the kind of political decisions that give “politics” a bad name. City Hall is so steeped in this brand of politics; they can’t imagine that the dissenters are not.
It is time to restore integrity and conviction to City Hall politics. Bad politics benefits the insiders, which most of us are not. Dissent is not “political”, it’s just democracy.
