Interested in serving on the BOE or other boards, send me your resume!

Dear Editor:

I want to make the residents of Union City aware of a change in ordinance expanding the membership of the Board of Trustees of the Union City Board of Education from five members to seven.

This expansion will allow for more community involvement in one of the most important boards in our city. I have always been an advocate of opening our city’s board positions up to the general public and not making merely political appointments to our boards. I have encouraged Union City residents who are interested in serving on our boards to send me their resumes for consideration. Too often in the past, parents, residents and students were not included in the decision-making process of the Board of Education. By including the average citizen and by making it possible for even more citizens to serve on the Board of Education, we allow for the input of a broader cross-section of our population, different points of view and more minority representation.

I invite any resident interested in serving on the Board of Education or any of the city’s other volunteer boards to send their resumes to my office.
