Dear Editor:
For most of us, we were fortunate that this week’s blizzard did little more damage than inconvenience our Presidents’ Day Weekend. Although the storm dropped nearly 20 inches of snow (the fourth highest total recorded), the city and its citizens responded enforce.
I am particularly proud of the quick action taken by members of the Department of Environmental Services who began clearing our streets within hours of the first snowfall. Although it was a holiday weekend and the biggest snowstorm in seven years, our streets were, for the most part, passable throughout this event.
All city departments worked together to coordinate and execute our efforts and inform residents. The city quickly established a hotline for seniors, the disabled and anyone in need of emergency services. Equally important, we mobilized communications though our Office of Constituent Services and provided updated information on the city’s website, www.hobokennj.org.
I would like to thank our residents and businesses which responded quickly in this team effort by cleaning sidewalks and helping their neighbors.
Less than two days after the storm’s end and through the hard work of the Environment Services crew, Hoboken was well on the road to recovery. I truly thank everyone who participated in this effort, and thank you for your patience.
Mayor David Roberts
