Dear Editor:
I am writing to voice my concern over the fact that not one person on the 12-member New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority Board is a resident of either Hudson, Bergen or Passaic counties, the three New Jersey counties that will be most affected by what happens in the Meadowlands.
I would like to know how these people, who hail from Woodbridge, Cherry Hill and Scotch Plains among other towns that are not anywhere near the Meadowlands, can profess to know what is best for our area. One member listed her home as The Netherlands.
I would agree that the members of this Board have very impressive resumes and experience in the business world and government, but does this qualify them as experts in the metropolitan-area’s economic future, especially that of the local main streets’ economies? Are they cognizant of the impact of added vehicular traffic in this area? Do they know what the people of Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties really want?
Why would the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority choose not to appoint representatives to the Board from areas which would be affected by the Authority’s decisions on a daily basis?
I ask that the Authority re-think their appointments and either replace several members of the Board with local people or increase the membership of the Board so that local representatives can be appointed.
