New year’s resolutions UC, WNY residents see opportunities for improvement

People have been making "New Year’s resolutions" for years now. Jan. 1 is seen as a do-over day, a day that represents rebirth, a chance to reboot and try again. A day to begin correcting mistakes, shrinking waistlines, making more money, and spending more time with loved ones.

Unfortunately, many of these resolutions wind up in the trash bin of everyday life, forgotten when the crushing monotony of daily existence forces one to realign their thinking to a less ambitious level. Somehow, when a person awakes in the darkness of a winter morning for yet another day of work, aching to stay under the covers, the spirit with which New Year’s resolutions are made tends to fall by the wayside.

Yet, many local residents have maintained the resolve to keep their New Year’s resolutions. Here is what some West New York and Union City residents have pledged for this year.

"Eat less." – Marco Torres, West New York

"To make more money." – Tanya Torres, West New York

"To lose some weight." – Billy Rusch, West New York

"To give service and quality and a positive attitude." – Valentino of Caram Men’s Shop, West New York

"I just joined a gym. I want to work out and do some traveling, too." – Hoshy Diaz

"I’ve pledged to quit smoking, but so far it hasn’t worked." – James W. Melnichok

"I don’t bother making them because I never keep them." – Union City Police Lt. Dennis Kohrherr
