Our prayers and remembrance

Dear Editor:

On Wednesday, September 11, 2002 the tenants of the Meadowview Village; of the North Bergen Housing Authority, gathered around the flag pole on Meadowview Avenue to hold a candlelight vigil. This was in honor of what happened on 9/11/01 in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. These services were attended by over 100 people. In attendance were people of all colors, races and creeds and many veterans.

The ceremonies were opened by having a Pledge of Allegiance followed by the singing of the national anthem, and America. After a short speech by Bernie Schlein, God Bless America was sung by all in attendance. A moment of silent prayer was observed for the World Trade Center, Pentagon and the crash in Pennsylvania. Many a tear was shed.

Our program was ended by the playing of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes by Tom Leahy.

Our program was ended with the playing of taps and was then concluded.

Honor the dead by helping the living. God Bless America.
