Dear Editor:
On October 27, 2002 Liberty State Park is going to present a very special event called the CNJ Festival. The CNJ Festival will give the public an opportunity to meet some of the last remaining eyewitnesses to a major chapter in the transportation history of our nation. The veterans of the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) will be telling their stories for all to hear while at the same time being recorded for future generations. They will be bringing the CNJ railroad alive for children and families, as well as rail fans and other train enthusiasts.
Liberty State Park, along with several other railroad enthusiast and community groups, will be hosting this entertaining, yet compelling event. The day’s events will include story telling, live re-enactments, music activities for children, vendors, food, and a moving finale. The event will be located in and around the historic CNJ Terminal building, and the event will be free to the public.
This event is going to bring to life the great stories that took place on the railroad and in the Historic CRRNJ Terminal, however this story cannot be told without people sharing their experiences. Though we have many great things lined up already, the CNJ Railroad Festival is looking for additional Pictures, Stories, Memorabilia and Train Artifacts. Whether you are a railroad vet, a passenger who has an interesting story to share, someone who took pictures of the people and trains, or someone who has memorabilia that is collecting dust, we are looking for you.
Please help us tell this important story by speaking to one of our festival members. You may contact Doug Kirkpatrick at 917-821-2657 or Mike Timpanaro at 201-915-3411. Thank you.
