Union City: my “Hometown Apple”

Dear Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly and proudly express my appreciation to Commissioner Michael A. Leggiero and Mayor Brian Stack for transforming Union City into my “Hometown Apple”. New York City has long carried the moniker “The Big Apple” due to its cornucopia of cultural events and abundance of community gatherings. With Com. Leggiero at the helm of our Parks Department, we too now enjoy cultural events that allow us to come together as a cohesive, caring community.

I was enthralled with the recent performance of “The Merchant of Venice” at Ellsworth Park, only to be fortunate enough to be enchanted all over again by a Parks Department sponsored poetry reading at the same cozy (and may I add clean, clean. Clean!) Ellsworth Park.

In a summer promising to bring oppressive heat and the concomitant summer strains, it is truly refreshing to have a wonderful roster of free community events to lift the onus of heat, humidity and crowding ahead.

Again, deepest appreciation to Com. Leggiero and Mayor Stack.

Hope to see you there.

Alice Deleon
