Dear Editor:
New Jersey drivers now have the chance to promote their support of life-saving organ donations while funding donor awareness through the purchase of the new “Donate Life” specialty plates.
The “Donate Life” specialty license plates may be purchased for leased or owned cars and trucks for an initial fee of $50.00 or $100.00 for personalized plates containing up to five characters. A yearly renewal fee of $10.00 will go directly toward organ and tissue donation education programs for New Jersey.
The “Donate Life” specialty plate features the National Gift of Life Rose, representing organ and tissue donors and the green ribbon, which is the national symbol for organ and tissue donation.
Assemblymen Joseph Doria, Jr. (D-Hudson) and Alex DeCroce (R-Morris, Essex, Passaic), both long time advocates of organ and tissue donation sponsored the legislation to establish the plates.
“This specialty license plate will make it possible to enlist New Jersey citizens in promoting organ donation through the license campaign” said Joseph S. Roth, president and chief executive officer of The Sharing Network. “The goal is to increase the number of potential organ donors by creating public awareness about the lifesaving benefits of transplantation.
