The National Honor Society inducted 31 new members at its annual Induction Ceremony at Secaucus High School on Thursday, April 23.
The ceremony started with the explanation of the characteristics of service, character, leadership, and scholarship by the student officers. The officers are president, Anh Thu Ngo, vice president, Roland Tsao, secretary, Christie Pirro, treasurer, Kaushik Patel, historian, Gina Sallustio, and parliamentarian, Pat Cocucci. The advisor is mathematics teacher, Mrs. Virginia Foley. Mr. Patrick Impreveduto, principal, presented each of the officers with their officer guard and presented each of the junior members with their NHS patch. Mr. Impreveduto also placed upon each senior the NHS stoles, which are to be worn on their graduation day.
At a special candlelight ceremony, the following students were inducted into that prestigious organization.

One of the characteristics of the honor societies is service. The students worked hard to raise money to help First Steps, a school for students with special needs. The combined efforts of the National Honor Society, American Technology Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta raised an outstanding total of $8,600 for children with special needs. The following students raised $50 or more and received medals for outstanding service.

Two students, Ilan Etin and Nicole Bonito, raised a total of $250 each and receive a very special award. Congratulations to all the members, new inductees and award winners from all three honor societies. Secaucus High School students raise money for First Steps
Every year, Nashville performers Randy and Cindy Moore spend Easter Sunday running an Easter Egg Hunt. This year, like preceding years, all proceeds go to First Steps Duncanwood school. It is a private, non-profit licensed association for the education and development of children 6 weeks to 5 years of age and their families who have special needs or are at risk. This is a fun time for all with egg hunting and various contests for prizes. There are free refreshments for all. This year, with various donations from people unable to attend and the various activities, the hunt raised $600, the most in its history.
Again this year, Secaucus High School’s National Honor Society and American Technology Honor Society also raised funds to donate to the Moore’s Easter Egg Hunt. The students realized if these two caring individuals could open their home on Easter to raise money, this is the least they could do. They were lucky enough to meet Randy, who performed for them when he was in New Jersey doing a benefit concert with Bruce Springsteen for 9/11. Getting to meet Randy made these students work so hard that this year they raised $8,600 to be added to the Egg Hunt Money. Adding this money to the $600 made the Moore’s donation to First Steps of $9,200 .
The Moores were so moved by the donation that they autographed headshots and even had a plaque made for the students, with a large star in the center.
