Sean Connery was the first thespian to bring Ian Fleming’s notorious secret agent to life in the 1962 release of Dr. No. Since then, several actors have tried to live up to the sexy sultry standard he set. George Lazenby played 007 in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.Roger Moore was the man who ordered martinis "shaken, not stirred" throughout most of the ’70s and ’80s in, among others, Live and Let Die, The Man With the Golden Gun, Moonraker, They Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, and Octopussy. Timothy Dalton took over for one year in 1987 with The Living Daylights. And today, younger viewers know 007 as a dapper Brit named Pierce Brosnan.
To coincide with The Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theater’s James Bond film festival (see p. 7), the Current decided to ask Hudson Countyites which portrayer of James Bond they prefer. As expected, for most fans there’s only one Bond.
"I like Sean Connery. He’s awesome in Goldfinger." – Sarina, Hoboken.
"I’ve only seen the ones with Pierce Brosnan." – John, who admitted that he is not a fan of the series.
"There’s only one Bond, and his name is Sean Connery." – Ed, who lifted his martini and added, "Shaken, not stirred."
"Sean Connery is the only 007." – Ann, whose favorite Bond movie is Dr. No.
