Dear Editor:
Today I went to three banks in West New York, and I had proper ID, and all I wanted was a cash advance from my credit card. And at the first bank I went to I had spoken to the manager of the bank, and I gave her my credit card along with my ID. She turned to me and said, “you need a passport,” and I told her “I was born in America,” and she said to me and I quote, “I mean when you go back to your country.”
I got so angry with her. I told her I was born in America, and I have three generations, Italian, German and American and still she insisted that I came from another country. So that was that.
So I went to another bank, and I got the same treatment; and then I said to myself why don’t I try my bank, and you know what happened? They said the same thing as the other two banks; you need a passport; so if you want to do any banking or you want to go to your country. And that made me mad.
I am not Spanish, I am an American. I was born in Montclair Hospital in Montclair, NJ., and these banks in West New York should believe me when I say this to them. I wonder if this has ever happened to your readers.
