Leasing has opened at Hoboken’s first marina – an 80-slip facility at the Shipyard mixed-use community on the city’s northern waterfront.
The new marina, located just south of the 14th Street Pier along Hoboken’s spectacular waterfront promenade, will offer rental slips plus a waterfront boathouse, according to Applied Development Company, which is developing both the marina and the Shipyard community.
The boating season extends from April 1 to Oct. 31, reported Michael Barry, an Applied principal.
"We’ve already leased many of the slips during our pre-opening rental program," said Barry. "We’ve also completed a contract with Michael Fortenbaugh, one of the area’s leading boating and sailing authorities, to manage the facility and potentially direct a sailing school there, adding increased value and service to the boaters."
Mr. Fortenbaugh, the commodore and founder of the Manhattan Yacht Club and the Manhattan Sailing School based out of the prestigious North Cove Yacht Harbor in Manhattan, envisions the opening of the Shipyard Marina as an important extension of Hoboken’s rich maritime history.
"This city has played a major role in the area’s boating heritage," he said. "Our vision for this facility is one of high quality and superb customer service, and we’re delighted that it will provide much-needed public access to New York Harbor."
Slips at the Shipyard Marina are available in four different lengths – 24, 26, 32 and 40 feet. Aside from the monthly rental, slip tenants also pay electric, water, cable TV and telephone services.
Set on a landscaped pier, the boathouse will offer a lounge with views of the Manhattan skyline and the ever-changing river scene, a business center, and private shower and restroom facilities. Slip users can also take advantage of pump-out service.
"The marina is just minutes away from Manhattan via ferry, PATH and bus," noted Barry. "It’s also next door to the Shipyard’s array of shopping, dining and service conveniences. And, of course, the Shipyard Marina is just steps away from all Hoboken has to offer."
