Delighted with improvements to Harsimus Cove’s commercial district

Dear Editor:

The Board of the Harsimus Cove Association wants everyone to know how delighted we are with the recent improvements in our commercial district that are a direct result of decisions by the Board of the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District, led by their President Jerry Blankman of Palace Drugs. The HDSID covers parts of Newark Avenue, Grove Street and Jersey Avenue. Harsimus Cove is the historic district near the Grove PATH station, between the Van Vorst and Hamilton Park historic districts.

Lately the sidewalks and curbsides are much cleaner, and even the park around our PATH station is being cleaned.

This season’s holiday decorations and banners have been wonderful; they’re festive and tasteful.

The HDSID has reached out to the local residents for ideas, to tell us about their plans and even to involve us in some of their activities such as the holiday tree-lighting event in Mercado Park.

We’re also pleased to see our area so well represented by the very professional-looking ads being aired on cable television.

People who live in Harsimus Cove appreciate the hometown feeling, the convenience, the high quality and the reasonable prices available to us in the shops, restaurants and services in the historic downtown commercial district. We share a common goal with the merchants in the HDSID, to continue to improve the quality of life here. There is still work to be done, and we look forward to seeing even greater improvements in 2002.

Annie Kessler, President
Harsimus Cove Association
