The Northern New Jersey Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients Program is seeking interested schools to participate in its nationwide program to raise funds to be used for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma research, and for patient services.
Pennies for Patients is one of the Society’s National School and Youth Programs. This year pop singer Mandy Moore, whose new CD "Mandy Moore" was recently released and features the new single, "In My Pocket" will be serving as the 2001 National School and Youth Honorary Chairperson. "I feel very honored to be this year’s honorary chairperson of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s School and Youth campaign," said Moore. "Because I am a past participant of the Pasta for Pennies program, I am very familiar with both the program and its cause, and I am very passionate about supporting the Society’s mission."
To further demonstrate her commitment to the Society and its School and Youth Campaign, Moore will visit the top fundraising school in the country at the end of the school year to congratulate and recognize students for their fund raising activities.
Since 1993, millions of dollars have been raised in pennies and other spare change by more than 10 million elementary, middle and high school students nationwide for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Pennies for Patients Program will run for a three-week period beginning in February. Schools raising a minimum of $500 will win a $50 Fuddruckers Gift Certificate to award their top fundraising class. Every school that registers will receive a Certificate of Appreciation.
School administrators find the program to be a valuable one that also teaches the significance of service, learning and helping those in need. In 2001, 8,500 schools nationwide participated in the Pennies for Patients Program and raised $8.5 million.
In Springfield, the Northern New Jersey of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be the beneficiary of funds. If you are a school teacher or administrator looking for a worthwhile community project for your students to take part in, register now for Pennies for Patients. By participating in the Pennies for Patients Program, students can help The Society in its mission of finding cures for those terrible blood-related cancers and helping patients and their families deal with these diseases.
