Dear Editor:
The Fourth Ward, traditionally a morass of patronage politics and neglect, has improved. Recently through the outstanding and courageous work done by citizens like Tony Soares and groups like the Guardians of the Fourth Ward, much progress has been made. Tony Soares and Ruben Ramos got elected to the City Council. Further progress towards reform culminated in Dave Roberts’ election as Mayor last spring. The progress towards great government is not complete however.
Fourth Ward voters have three choices. One candidate has long experience as Councilperson and a history of community involvement but unfortunately was too closely tied with the previous administration and thus represents a step backwards to the policies and practices that were soundly repudiated by the voters earlier this year. Another candidate who holds the appointed position has been out of town for seven years, has no relevant work experience and has NEVER EVEN VOTED IN HOBOKEN. The choice is clear; Michael Lenz stands head and shoulders above his competitors.
Michael has been a good neighbor and active citizen for many years now. He has been successful in business. He has tremendous experience from his years as elected School Board Trustee here in town. He has great relationships with the Mayor and the Council; in fact, as Campaign Manager for Hoboken United last spring he articulated many of the policies of reform now being implemented. Michael Lenz is a creative, honest and energetic leader as well as a proven administrator – give him the opportunity to serve and he will do a great job.
