Dear Editor:
I feel I must preface this letter by emphatically stating that I support Mayor Dave Roberts’ administration. I volunteered through the spring on the Hoboken United campaign and worked with a great group of people to help transform Hoboken’s government. In fact, not long ago, I wrote a letter in this space suggesting that the people of Hoboken give Mayor Roberts and his new team the time it will take to make the changes necessary for Hoboken to become an even better city than it already is. I do believe the administration is working towards that.
With that said, I think that they can accomplish even more with Mike Lenz as the 4th Ward Councilman. I got to know Mike well during the campaign. I know him as a man that cares very deeply for Hoboken and achieving true reform. He wants to work for all constituents of Hoboken — the people of the Projects, the Newcomers and the Born and Raised. He is not just out for himself as many in these pages have asserted. Yes, he tried to get the Director’s job at the Hoboken Parking Authority because he thought he could do good there. He thought he could bring order and professionalism to a place that all agree is a bureaucratic miasma. When that did not happen, Mike looked around for another way to help, and he saw the 4th Ward.
I hope all the residents of the 4th Ward realize the prize they have in Mike Lenz. He will fight with them and for them to make the 4th Ward and Hoboken a better place. He will work with the Administration to help them stay true to their goals of change and reform.
Let’s not let personalities and perceived insults get in the way of helping Hoboken become all that it can. The people of the 4th Ward can make their voices heard that they endorse a real transformation in Hoboken politics by voting for Mike Lenz to be their Councilman.
