TV for the soul

I feel kind of guilty saying this, but I’m really looking forward to the season premiere of Friends, Will and Grace and ER. I’ve been watching CNN and MSNBC nonstop since Sept. 11 and I really need a break. I thought if anyone could understand my predicament it would be JoAnne Steglitz, a fellow fan of medium. – Carol E., Hoboken

JoAnne Steglitz responds: I feel your pain. I’m also looking forward to the season premieres of Friends, Will and Grace and ER, but also feel bad looking forward to anything right now. But I’ll give you the same advice Mayor Rudy Guiliani gave the rest of the nation – and I’m paraphrasing here – "We need to go out and start enjoying the good things in life." And if the season premier of Must-See TV isn’t one of the good things in life, I don’t know what is.

Pave paradise

I drove into Hoboken last Saturday night and was stunned by the amount of cars in the mile-square-city. I drove around for an hour looking for a parking space, and ended up spending $20 to put it in a lot. Do you have any advice for your neighbors from Bergen County? – Jennifer, Lyndhurst

Two words: Mass transit! P.S. Eventually you’ll be able to take the light rail.

Where’s the love

I can’t believe JoAnne Steglitz "really, really liked" that stupid chick flick You Can Count On Me. ("Current Cinema," Sept. 6). My girlfriend made me go see it with her last winter, and it sucked! I thought JoAnne had more discerning tastes than that. – Brian, Hoboken

You seem to forget that JoAnne Steglitz is a chick who likes flicks, so it only makes sense that she would "really, really like" You Can Count On Me.

Auntie Em! Auntie Em!

Did they cancel the Emmys? – Doug S.

It looks like they might. Stay tuned.

On the Fritz

I haven’t been able to get channels 4, 7, or 11 in weeks. What’s up? – Captain John

Those channels, as well as 13, have been out since the Sept. 11 disaster, unless you have cable. Fox 5 was out for a while, but they got a transmitter working. Until the other channels get their transmitters up, you can try channel 25 as well, which has been broadcasting certain other stations at various times.
